This statement is intended to provide an update on the latest information and recommendations from Quintana Roo’s Department of Health to the Tourism industry and its partners.
As of today’s date, there exist no confirmed cases in Mexico of infection with new Coronavirus, or 2019-nCOV as it is technically referred to by health organizations. After analyzing all evidence available as of today, the World Health Organization has also determined that there is no cause for declaring a global health emergency at this time.
Mexico and the State of Quintana Roo adhere to strict international guidelines and protocols related to the prevention, detection and treatment of many diseases and is well prepared to address this situation. Additionally, it is worth noting that there are no direct flights from China to Quintana Roo’s international airports in Cancun, Cozumel and Chetumal.
Given these facts, there exists no reason for travelers to consider changes in their plans to visit the State of Quintana Roo and its destinations.
The government of Quintana Roo and tourism industry remain well prepared for such situations and are following the most up-to-date information and recommendations from the relevant national and international organizations.

The World Health Organization advises that travelers who have recently visited Wuhan, China, or those who may have come into contact with infected individuals, report to their health care provider by telephone should they develop symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, coughing, sneezing, muscle aches, or headaches. Additionally, common sense measures remain highly effective at reducing the possibility of infections of any kind. These include: washing hands frequently with soap and hot water, covering your mouth and nose with tissues or your arm should you sneeze, avoiding contact with sick individuals, and consuming well cooked food and purified beverages.
