Cancun, Quintana Roo – This week the Mexican Caribbean announced new tourism statistics from its destinations. On Saturday, December 18 — the beginning of the 2021 winter holiday season — Cancun International Airport marked a new airlift record with 648 flights, surpassing its all-time record of 659 flights on March 31, 2018.
Furthermore, according to top consulting firm ForwardKeys, Cancun ranked second in the top 20 most visited tourist destinations in the world, only after Dubai.
The Federal Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) reported an average hotel occupancy of 55.8 percent in 12 selected destinations for week 49 (December 6 to 12, 2021). Cancun registered 76.3 percent, i.e., 3.6 percent higher than the previous week.
The tourism recovery campaign has attracted a greater number of tourists and visitors, once again marking the Mexican Caribbean as one of the most important destinations worldwide. The Quintana Roo Tourism Board works in coordination with consulates, the private sector, and the federal and state agencies involved in tourist services, including the SEDETUR Directorate of Tourist Assistance.
Visitors can download the Guest Assist application to reach the Department of Tourist Assistance, composed of bilingual, highly trained tourist assistance staff available for issues related to any situation that may arise in the Mexican Caribbean. The Call Center works in coordination with 911 by dialing 800 277 4780.
