Message from Gov. Carlos Joaquín after an interview outlining the progress made against Covid-19
May 28, 2020
Friends of Quintana Roo:
I want to repeat myself.
We are coming upon what the federal government has referred to as the end of the healthy distance program.
This does not mean that the coronavirus has been defeated or that it is gone. Not at all. The coronavirus is present in the state, it is present in our environment.
To this day, we have lived with this virus by maintaining social distance and self-isolation. Surely once some productive activities begin to resume we will have to live with the virus and the risk of a re-occurrence.
This new reality dictates that we cannot disregard hygiene measures, preventive measures, and disregard the mandate to not greet each other with hugging or kissing. We must still observe a social distance of at least one and a half meters between one person and another and, above all, staying home until otherwise instructed to do so by the state and health authorities.
The more people who stay at home, the more we are able to manage our response to the virus and ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents. We have to protect our families and vulnerable citizens, including the elderly, and people with hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. All of them are at risk and we don’t want to put their lives in danger.
That is why it is very important to keep the social-distance, to maintain each of these measures and to stay home.
We are going to be working with public safety entities and groups of young volunteers in various municipalities of the state to remind the public to wear masks, glasses if possible, even googles, as well as the useof antibacterial gel, washing your hands and remaining at home.
The most important thing is to adjust our behavior so we avoid a rebound or a return of the virus. If this happen, we will have to use more of our hospital beds. As these beds fill up, we will then have to return to total isolation and we will all have to stay at home, stopping all productive activities once again.
We have to avoid this, but we will always put the the health and well-being of our citizens above all else.We all want to resume productive activity, but we must do itgradually and in a smart way, with commitment and withmaturity, as the people of Quintana Roo know how to do.
You have been asked to stay home, to take care of yourselves, to take care of others, to take care of your family and at the same time learn how to live with the coronavirus so we can return to productive activities.
If we do everything that is asked of us, I am sure that Together We Will Move Succeed.
