- First time in 25 years that the WEC will be held outside the US or Canada.
- About 2,400 people from around the world expected to attend.
Cancún, Quintana Roo, Thursday, June 23rd, 2022.- The Mexican Caribbean will host the World Education Congress (WEC), the most important event in the meeting industry —organized by the Meeting Professionals International Association (MPI) — to be held in the Riviera Maya on June 12-15th, 2023. The official announcement was made during this year’s edition, held from June 21st to 23rd in San Francisco, California.
Dario Flota Ocampo, General Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Board (CPTQ), made the announcement. “This is the first time in 25 years that the congress will be held outside the United States or Canada. We expect about 2,400 attendees, all experts in the meeting industry, including buyers of events from all over the world. They will witness not only the greatness of our destinations, but the infrastructure, and first-class services offered by the Mexican Caribbean hosting such a significant event”.
The WEC, the most important event in the meeting industry, is focused on updating and professionalizing the entire value chain of the meeting industry and generating business networks among them. The designation was granted after a tough competition where several factors were considered such as air connectivity, infrastructure, meeting rooms and venues for events, quality of services and products, quality of suppliers specialized in groups and events, attractions offered by the destination, among others.
The announcement was made during a lunch in which the Mexican Caribbean greatness and beauty were highlighted through details and elements that characterize it, such as cenotes, beaches, Mayan culture, gastronomy and quality service.
